How the millennials have become entrepreneurs

The era of the millennials is here. This generation has gone through a lot from economic up-and-downs to a worldwide pandemic and even in these uncertain times, this generation finds effective and creative solutions to their problems. Therefore it's not surprising that they are taking over entrepreneurship. Millennials are a tech-savvy and educated generation ready to put ideas into use. Unlike generations that came before them, Millenials have resources, skills, and knowledge necessary to create their own businesses and not only survive but also thrive.

What is their secret and why are so many more millennials aiming to create their businesses and become their own bosses? It is not only about resources and education there is much more that helps millennials to succeed in today’s saturated market.

Shift in lifestyles

It is undeniable that in recent years there has been more demand for flexible schedules. The growing concern of mental health combined with the desire for a more balanced life work situation has motivated a lot of millennials to achieve a more flexible work schedule.  Unfortunately not many 5 to 9 jobs give the opportunity to their employees to enjoy a flexible schedule, therefore many millennials choose to concentrate their mental and physical energy into their own businesses and become their own boss. Becoming an entrepreneur is not a guarantee of immediate cash, however, it is a start to create something of your own and down the road enjoy the benefits of having a flexible schedule. Becoming an entrepreneur also allows us to enjoy not only the flexibility of hours but also locations. It becomes much easier to move from one city to another and even from one country to another.

In addition to all these benefits, there is also the control of finances and earnings. After all, being an entrepreneur is about strategic and creative thinking and we know that millennials are pretty good at both of these.

Innovation is in demands

When you are working for a company, sometimes it can be very hard to be heard. Very often employees, especially millennials have exciting ideas that are never heard or put to use. This frustration combined with a constant flow of creative and innovative thinking pushes millennials to create their own rather than work for someone else. Owning a business puts you in the driver's seat and allows you to call all the shots. Whether it's sales or marketing, you have the final say.

With millennials, innovative thinking starts from the idea for a business and spans to marketing their product and service. Millennials are also very creative in partnerships, so they build sustainable and long-term cooperations.

Millennials are also very good at assessing what the market means. With their innovative thinking, they offer services and products that solve real problems. So instead of being cooped up in an office room, they use their creativity to create businesses that solve problems.

Big paychecks are not enough to keep millennials at work. They need self-fulfillment and they need to feel that their ideas are heard and that their contributions are real and appreciated.

Be-the-change-you-want-to-see kind of mindset

A lot of Millennials want to work for companies that are socially responsible. They want to be a part of a company that has a larger goal, a clear mission, and a vision to drive positive change.  This need for belonging to a change-making company drives decision-making and when they can't find a company that meets these standards, they go on to create their own.

We often hear that children are tomorrow. Millennials were once “the children,” and now they have become tomorrow. They are driving real changes in their communities locally and in the world globally. The millennials have a “be the change you want to see” kind of mindset, which also drives their businesses.

We see a growing trend of entrepreneurs becoming socially responsible when it comes to their work ethic, company culture, sustainability, and environment-friendly policies. As entrepreneurs, millennials can create businesses and jobs that contribute to the well-being of society. They can create workplaces for people from vulnerable backgrounds, they can donate their earnings and simply create organizations that drive change directly. For instance, recycling companies, cruelty-free vegan production of cosmetics, and more.

Putting technology into use

It would be wrong to say that millennials are reinventing the wheel. They simply know how to fill in the gaps and how to make existing products and services even better.  Millennials are great at technology and most of their inventions are based on automating things that used to be done manually. Millennials love technology and they understand technology and its project in their businesses.

Many emerging tech solutions like artificial intelligence give millennials new opportunities and new fields to access. Technology makes becoming an entrepreneur much easier. There's no need to create something tangible in order to become an entrepreneur and own a business.  Entrepreneurship is no longer about owning a physical company like a shop or a hotel. Startups in the tech sector are increasing in numbers with Millennials in founding teams.

It has not been an easy road for millennials. They faced crises in finance, health, peace, and more, and yet with their creativity, innovation, and strategic thinking,  they went on to become successful entrepreneurs.
